The word "Kyu" means "Old". This shopping street is named "old" but the shops look very trendy. Different from Kabukicho and Ameyoko, and there is no large archway with the name "Shopping Street". But as we gradually moved from sparse houses into a batch of shops. This change let us know -- we had arrived!
This is - Kyu-Karuizawa Ginza Shopping Street
It was about 12:00 at this time, we found a soba noodle restaurant when we arrived. We were very glad that we arrived early, because soon after we sat down, a queue formed outside. After checking the information, I found out that this is a "popular spot". The name is "Kawakami-an"
Menu is in English and Japanese. What should Hong Kong people do if they don’t know much about either? Point to the food picture and said "I want this, this, this, and..... this.”
I personally don't like cold soba noodles very much, but this is quite famous in Nagano. Fried shrimp and tempura soba noodles from popular shops around here, the taste us sweet and delicious, with super crispy tempura fried shrimp. Moreover, Nikomi Soba is a hot simmered-duck based noodles that I like, too. They are the food that cannot be missed.
This was the most surprising meal during our 2025 Tokyo trip.
The long queue outside the restaurant proved that it is really popular. More than half in the queue were local diners.
We didn't plan to take the bus on this trip, but the bus stop for Kyu-Karuizawa is right opposite the soba restaurant. Then we roughly read the timetable. The frequent of this is half an hour for each.

Rilakkuma Sumikkogurashi Demin House
Beautiful little shops, idle bicycles, and leisurely people strolling on the street, this is Karuizawa.
There are many popular bakeries in Kyu-Karuizawa, and we went to Boulangerie Asanoya to find something to eat. The taste of chocolate bread is quite good.
We walked further down and saw Church Street. I felt it was more like a mall than a street.
After crossing Church Street, we arrived at St. Paul's Church. The appearance of this church is nice, but it is not very special. It was not open that day, so we just visited it for several times.
